How do you respond when facing building a habit that survives imperfect days?

It took me a while to name it, but I am dealing with building a habit that survives imperfect days. Some days I can take a useful next step, while on other days simply acknowledging it feels like progress. I am reconsidering whether consistency can include pauses, adjustments, and fresh starts. I am especially interested in approaches that still work on imperfect days.

One thing that has helped me is tracking how often I return rather than how often I am perfect. I keep the goal deliberately small so it feels supportive rather than like another obligation.

I appreciate the honesty here. It is encouraging to see people leave room for different needs, different timelines, and imperfect progress.

That is a helpful question. I call a step manageable when I can begin it without needing to feel completely ready first.

Thank you for naming building a habit that survives imperfect days. The details may differ for each person, but your post made me feel less alone in it.
