How I am rethinking measuring progress without becoming rigid

It took me a while to name it, but I am dealing with measuring progress without becoming rigid. Some days I can take a useful next step, while on other days simply acknowledging it feels like progress. I am reconsidering whether consistency can include pauses, adjustments, and fresh starts. I am especially interested in approaches that still work on imperfect days.

Thank you for naming measuring progress without becoming rigid. The details may differ for each person, but your post made me feel less alone in it.

I appreciate the honesty here. It is encouraging to see people leave room for different needs, different timelines, and imperfect progress.

Sometimes I tell one trusted person exactly what would helpβ€”listening, company, or a quick check-in later. Being specific takes away some of the guesswork.

One thing that has helped me is tracking how often I return rather than how often I am perfect. I keep the goal deliberately small so it feels supportive rather than like another obligation.

My experience has been uneven too. I started noting what happened just before a difficult moment, and over time a few useful patterns became visible.

That is a helpful question. I call a step manageable when I can begin it without needing to feel completely ready first.
