Looking for realistic ideas about being still without trying to empty my mind

I wanted to write honestly about being still without trying to empty my mind. I am trying to notice what helps without turning recovery into another test I have to pass. For me, being present means returning gently, not holding perfect concentration. Has anyone found a small, repeatable response that makes the next hour easier?

Sometimes I tell one trusted person exactly what would help—listening, company, or a quick check-in later. Being specific takes away some of the guesswork.

I relate to the part about being still without trying to empty my mind. What usually tells you that you need comfort, practical help, or simply some space?

One thing that has helped me is noticing three physical sensations and letting my attention settle there. I keep the goal deliberately small so it feels supportive rather than like another obligation.

My experience has been uneven too. I started noting what happened just before a difficult moment, and over time a few useful patterns became visible.
