I have been paying closer attention to listening during a tense conversation this week. I am learning that a response can be worthwhile even when it does not change everything at once. Care and boundaries can coexist, even when expressing both feels uncomfortable. I would appreciate hearing what this has looked like in real life for other people.

Sometimes I tell one trusted person exactly what would help—listening, company, or a quick check-in later. Being specific takes away some of the guesswork.

My experience has been uneven too. I started noting what happened just before a difficult moment, and over time a few useful patterns became visible.
