Would anyone share their experience of accepting that recovery is not linear?

I wanted to write honestly about accepting that recovery is not linear. What I need seems to change with my energy, surroundings, and how supported I feel. Healing does not follow a schedule, and difficult moments can return without erasing progress. I am especially interested in approaches that still work on imperfect days.

That is a helpful question. I call a step manageable when I can begin it without needing to feel completely ready first.

Sometimes I tell one trusted person exactly what would helpβ€”listening, company, or a quick check-in later. Being specific takes away some of the guesswork.

I relate to the part about accepting that recovery is not linear. What usually tells you that you need comfort, practical help, or simply some space?

I appreciate the honesty here. It is encouraging to see people leave room for different needs, different timelines, and imperfect progress.

One thing that has helped me is planning something gentle around dates or situations I know may be difficult. I keep the goal deliberately small so it feels supportive rather than like another obligation.

My experience has been uneven too. I started noting what happened just before a difficult moment, and over time a few useful patterns became visible.
